New House

So we moved into our new house this week. I'm super excited. The house has a lot of character and some really neat old features. Apparently the guys that lived here before us were a bunch of idiots. When they left they took the air conditioning units with them, as well as a bunch of light bulbs and a set of keys. The landlord had to pay carpenters to come fix the holes in the walls and he has to recarpet the whole top floor of the house, as well as all the linoleum.

There are six of us living in this house, but right now its just me and Rich. Everyone moved their stuff over to the house over the weekend, but we can't move into the bedrooms until the carpet is replaced on Monday or Tuesday. And we can't look into getting cable or internet yet because all the hookups are blocked by all our furniture crammed into the main floor.

Tomorrow's job: Put something in the fridge and make the cupboards not sticky.

Dilemma...

So I got my hands on this old video camera...

I downloaded the EvoCam software from Evological, which is this awesome application that lets you set up motion detection with webcams, as well as automatic FTP uploads, etc.

I played with the software for a while, but kept running into the same stumbling block. The camera automatically turns itself off after 5 minutes of no recording. Even if the motion detection is triggered, the recording happens on the computer, not the camera.

I checked the owners manual and the Canon.com FAQ. Both told me that my problem wasn't really a problem, it was a feature that was working as intended. Even when I removed the battery from the camera and had it running on AC power, the camera still turned itself off to... conserve the battery.

Its also fun that every time I try something new to get the camera to work, I have to wait 5 minutes for the camera to trigger the auto-off feature.

Any suggestions? Leave them in the comments.
